REAL Pedagogy.
Responsive/Relevant"For Us, By Us."

Everyone is different and unique with their own experiences. It is necessary to meet students where they are at in terms of student's experience and journey. I use my network as resources or points of access for my students towards their goals.
Being "trendy" means to be up on what is going on is popular. It is important because it is a way you can connect with students. Connecting with students on the things that they know and understand opens up new possibilities on what and how to learn. |
Education/Empathy"Me, We."
- Muhammad Ali |
Education is fun when you can see yourself in what you learn. I use examples that look like my students or challenge them to reimagine history. I believe when students feel connected to what they are learning, they have a better understanding of its importance.
The ability to understand and to share feelings are necessary building blocks to creating a community. Education at its core is energy work and each student comes in with their frequency. What I do in my work is to teach how to love and accept oneself and others. Empathy is crucial in teaching students about worth, value, and growth. |
Advocacy/Awareness"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." - Martin Niemöller |
I believe in student advocacy. That can look like connecting them with resources, writing scholarship referrals, or providing mentorship. I challenge students to advocate for each other as a necessary skill to develop community in the classroom.
By incorporating student narratives into the classroom, students feel invested in the experience. By challenging students to examine their life, encourages them to develop their sense of self and connection with others. Through this introspection students develop a sense of deeper feeling of awareness within themselves and others. |
Labor/Love"You can't lead the people if you dont love the people.
You cant save the people if you dont serve the people." - Dr. Cornel West. |
I do the work even if it means to stay up late over curriculum, proposals, or recommendations. I do the work that no body will see or ever know. I am invested in my work with students, faculty, and administrators. I am down for the ride and I am committed to becoming the change I want to see in the world.
Love is an action and a frequency to practice tuning into. Whether it is practicing to love oneself or learning to love other people, love is a powerful force. It takes time to love and sometimes you will struggle hard. Love is a process, a continuous development of "becoming". |
